B. SHARPA + THE SHARPAGANDA THEORY
BEN SHARPA | PHOTOGRAPHY + DESIGN | 2009
Ben Sharpa was a South African rapper known for riding electronic beats with futuristic lyrics.
As creative director of Pioneer Unit, I had the opportunity to conceptualise, shoot and design Ben Sharpa's vinyl 'The Sharpaganda Theory: Lesson 1' and his album 'B. Sharpa'. Both were released on 26 July 2008 on Jarring Effects and Pioneer Unit.
Self-awareness, police brutality, big brother governments, metaphysical questions and energy work were the inspiration for the artwork.
I also conceptualised, shot, designed and animated a music video for the glitchy track 'Callin' It Quits (We're Here) released on 12 November 2009, developing further the artwork designed for the album and vinyl.
BEN SHARPA & PURE SOLID | PHOTOGRAPHY + DESIGN | 2012
Pure Solid (Dplanet and myself) collaborated with Ben Sharpa to release an album called 4DLS, short for 4th Density Light Show on 21 March 2012 on both Jarring Effects and Pioneer Unit Records.
I conceptualised and designed the album artwork for which I also shot all photos.
We toured our live show in Europe for which I conceptualised, designed, animated and VJed live visuals. I even had a speaking part! I collaborated with our tour manager / light technician to create lighting plots to suit best each track and its visuals.
