NIKE IAM1 JOURNEY / CAPE BURG

NIKE  |  PHOTOGRAPHY + DESIGN  |   2009

Design and music collaboration with Rattex for the IAM1 Cape Burg book, launched in Johannesburg.

The book was directed, designed and written by Roelof van Wyk and Gustaf Greffrath and featured photographs of a number of Nike endorsed artists, poets and musicians in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

I conceptualised a serie of image portraying Rattex, a Pioneer Unit hip hop artist, dealing with life in the ghettos of South Africa. I shot all photos of Rattex in studio. The elements such as street lights, electricity lines and taxis were shot in Kayelitsha, a township near Cape Town.

STREETS RAPS & US

RATTEX  |  PHOTOGRAPHY + DESIGN  |   2010

An offshoot of the NIKE project is the cover artwork for Rattex's physical and digital album 'Streets Raps & Us', released on  16th August 2010 on Pioneer Unit Records

Rattex is proudly from Kayelitsha, a township outside Cape Town. He says that Kaltcha made him and that is what I chose to show on his album cover by creating a montage of Rattex mixed with elements of the townships.
